Hygiene

At the heart of everything we provide here at East Belfast Dental Clinic, is dental hygiene. We can’t build our fantastic tooth restorations on poor foundations!

Why do I need hygiene treatment?

When plaque is allowed to harden on the teeth it will eventually turn into tartar, a hard substance that can cause gum disease and weaken the soft tissues and jaw that support the teeth. Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss. Good oral hygiene is proven to be one of the most important ways of preventing long term dental problems. By  keeping your mouth healthy  you  can prevent tooth decay, gum disease, bad breath and reap all the benefits of better wellbeing. As part of our outstanding dental team, Paula Moore, our dental hygienist, works hand in hand with our dentists offering expert advice and support to all our patients.

We are privileged to work with Paula Moore, our ‘one in a million’ hygienist!

What happens at the appointment?

The dental hygienist will carry out a thorough clean to scale the plaque and tartar from your teeth, followed by a polish which leaves a shiny surface to prevent new build up of plaque. Equally importantly the hygienist will ask questions about your lifestyle and dental routine to let you know what you are doing right as well as offer advice on areas of improvement. Everyone needs two visits per year, even the dentist! However, depending on the condition of your teeth and gums, your hygienist may recommend a series of appointments.

Come on in, our door is always open!

Thanks to the recent changes in dental legislation, ‘Direct Access’ means dental hygienists and dental therapists are allowed to do what they are trained and competent to do, without the patient having to see a dentist first.

With over 80% of the population worried about the way their teeth look on photos, perhaps it’s time to brighten and whiten up your teeth with a direct access hygiene appointment.
